Hallucinogenic Drugs
Hallucinogenic drugs are substances that act on the central nervous system to produce changes in perception and mood and often hallucinations. They have unpredictable effects and are illegal in most countries. Hallucinogenic drugs work by chemical interference with the normal action of neurotransmitters in the brain.
Hallucinogens
Hallucinogens include:
- LSD
- Peyote
- Mescaline
- Psilocybin
- PCP
Taking hallucinogens may produce panic or suicidal feelings. These can recur without warning several days or even months after taking the drug. There are rare but serious cases of individuals entering an irreversible psychotic state mimicking schizophrenia.
Treatment for Hallucinogenic Drug Abuse
The danger of substance abuse is that the longer a person is abusing, and does not seek help from a drug treatment facility, the higher their chances are of doing physical, mental and emotional harm to themselves or to others. Lakeview Health Systems' A New Life Christian recovery center can help get you out of harm's way. Our Christ-centered drug abuse recovery program includes traditional therapies and treatments and also incorporates faith-based treatments into the recovery process. These can include Bible studies, prayer and church attendance, 12 Steps thru Christ program, Celebrate Recovery program and pastoral counseling.
A New Life provides individualized treatment plan to each and every patient. The staff sees each person as unique with their own set of problems to resolve. This is reflected in the development of customized treatment plans which are adjusted based on patient progress.
