“But I have tried before and fell back into my old habits, what good is it to try again?”

Being a Christian is not about never making mistakes. It is not about never being tempted. Sometimes we think that as Christians we are no longer supposed to deal with disappointment, or temptation. Christianity, like sobriety, is not a cake walk.

If you were to take a poll of the most successful people in your life, or read the biographies of accomplished people, you will find one common thread, success comes with a price and is built on second chances.

If success took less work, we would have more people claiming it. But success is the result of perseverance.

Nowhere is the bible does it say that you will never fall into temptation once you are saved. In Proverbs 24:16a it actually says:

“For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again”

The key, and the blessing of that verse, is that with God’s grace you can rise up again. You are no longer dead in your sin, you are no longer drowning your addiction, you are not longer overcome by alcohol.

If you or your loved one has tried traditional treatment centers before, do not be discouraged. For many people there is a need that for a  christian rehab center, that offers additional opportunities for spiritual renewal in addition to the more traditional treatment program.

“When I get clean, I will get things right with God….”

“When I get things right with God, I will get clean….”

Procrastination mixed with shame and guilt is a very dangerous combination for the Christian addict. Oftentimes we think well I don’t want to pray until I am on the right path, or we say when God is ready for me to get clean He will show me a sign. But God wants to work on right now, where ever you or your loved one is.

But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

God is patient, but He is also too wise to wait until we “got on the right path” to give us love. He wants you to come to Him right now. He wants to rebuild broken relationships, reconstruct damaged families and restore lost souls. Drug addiction and alcohol abuse are trying disconnect Christians from the promise that God has for them.

Reach your hands out to Him now, not when you are perfect, not when you are “ready”. Right Now. He will reach out to you.

With Lakeview Health Systems’ A New Life Program of combination of a practical treatment program with additional focus of spiritual renewal and growth, we want to help you rebuild, reconstruct and restore.

I was resistant to entering an addiction treatment center. I didn’t think I had a problem. It certainly wasn’t my idea to go to a drug rehab that had a Christian Program and yet there I was in a Florida Christian Rehab with drunks, addicts and religious nuts. I was forced to come here by the courts so I couldn’t leave and it was all I could do to not bolt and go on the run. They keep the program tracks separate so I didn’t have to put up with someone trying to save my soul. At the end of the treatment day we were all together in a mixed community back at the apartments.

I have always enjoyed “people watching” and it was no different in this Florida Christian Rehab. At night I would see some of the Christians get together with their bibles and talk about stuff from the bible while everyone else told drug stories. I felt uncomfortable with the drug talk because it made me want to use and I didn’t know anything about the bible, so I isolated. One night a girl from the Christian Program asked if I wanted to join them. She was hot, I was lonely, and so I accepted the invite. At first it was awkward but they were so cool and non-threatening and they didn’t focus on me so I stayed. I started to hang out with this group and saw they were different; they were positive, focused, and irritatingly nice to everyone.

I made a decision to go to church with the group; it was a large church and well attended. The pastor picked out some biblical scripture  to talk about and related those scriptures to everyday life. He was very skillful and I found myself listening, identifying with the information he presented. This was nothing like the church I attended as a child with all the ceremonies and strict tradition. At the end of the service the pastor invited people to come forward and accept Christ in their life. Many people went forward even some from the Florida Christian Rehab and I felt a pressure in my chest, I became overwhelmed and I felt tears forming in my eyes. I was confused and maybe a little scared. I did not go forward that night but the seed had been planted. Three weeks later I was one of those accepting Christ in my life and it has made all the difference. The treatment at the drug rehab was excellent and I am still in recovery after three years but becoming a believer will be an everlasting gift.

There is a lot of talk today about holistic treatment. We practice Holistic Treatment at our Florida Christian rehab. Pastoral Counseling certainly compliments holistic medicine in its awareness of the spiritual dimension in human wholeness. Holistic simply means treating all parts (the whole) of a person. When treating the disease of addiction, professionals have known for years that the disease is one of the body, mind and spirit. People have been taking their problems to the clergy for years and sought spiritually – based solutions. People who suffer from emotional and mental illness have been able to find some relief through the spiritual counseling; but in severe cases specialized care with a professional was necessary. We have found a perfect marriage of professional and Pastoral Counseling in treating our patients.

When Minister Norman Peal became partners with psychiatrist Smiley Blanton and formed The American Foundation of Religion and Psychiatry they started which have become (70 years later) pastoral psychotherapy; integrating behavioral sciences and theology. Studies concerning faith and mental health issues proved effective when patients in Mental Health Hospitals responded favorably while working with theology students. You can see the use of Pastoral Counseling in our Florida Christian Rehab comes from sound scientific principles and has survived the test of time. Our facility offers choices not found in other drug rehabs.

Pastoral Counselors are non-sectarian and are certified by The American Association of Pastoral Counselors. The staff at our Florida Christian Rehab will make every attempt to provide our patient with a Pastoral Counselor of his or her own denomination. If you are considering addiction treatment for yourself or someone you love, look around and see if other facilities stand up to the quality care we offer each patient entering our treatment program.

Even after having gone through treatment, there can still be emotional scarring left as the result of drug and alcohol abuse. During  your loved ones’ bout with addiction, their mind was subtly, and often overtly, warped to protect themselves from the illicit behavior they were engaged in.  The  mind went  into “this is what I have to do” mode.  So even when after becoming freed of the physical addiction, one’s mind still needs to be reprogrammed in to make a successful transition.

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your  mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing, and perfect will. Romans 12:2

In one’s present state of addiction it is often hard to realize the spiritual truths. It can often be seen as a personal attack or fight. But be encouraged, through a combination of spiritual and physical healing, A New Life wants to help reprogram the mind through the Word of God.

Do you want to give up drugs so that you can be led by God’s perfect will? Are you dealing with a loved one that has been programmed for disaster? Let God renew the mind, A New Life is here to help.

A carpenter is only as skillful as the tools in his tool box; the better the tools the better the job. This applies to an addict seeking recovery. At our Florida Christian Rehab we want to supply our patients with as many tools as possible to fight their disease. Most addiction treatment centers introduce patients to 12 step meetings and teach them about the steps. This is, of course, very important if the patient is to have a successful recovery; but it is not enough.

Celebrate Recovery is included in our Florida Christian Rehab. The principle difference between AA (and other Twelve Step programs) and Celebrate Recovery is that Celebrate Recovery focuses on Jesus Christ as the true Higher Power and uses God’s Word as the authority in relation to the Twelve Steps. The Twelve Steps have a Christian heritage as they were modeled after the Oxford Society. In order to reach people who would be offended by Jesus or the church, AA focused on a Higher Power. But Celebrate Recovery’s 8 Principles to the Road to Recovery tie the Twelve Steps to Jesus Christ’s teachings known as the Beatitudes given in The Sermon on the Mount.

Our Drug Rehab has a traditional course of treatment as well as the Christian Program. The staff understands that the principals included in the Celebrate Recovery program may not work for all patients. If a patient finds it more comfortable to use “higher power” there is no pressure to force a patients beliefs.  Our ultimate goal is to help our patients with their addictions and give them the tools for long term sobriety.

As with your spiritual growth, your personal growth after addiction has to be nurtured. As people, and often times as Christians, we want to hide our past transgressions once we have made a positive change.

Just as a scab can not heal well when covered with a bandage, our spiritual wounds whether it be from alcoholism or drug addiction also need to breathe so they can heal with less scarring.

Recovering from drug addiction is a mighty testament of the Lord’s healing power. In Psalms it says:

“I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord” Psalms 118:17

As part of the New Life Program at Lakeview Health Systems, we want to empower you with the tools to step boldly into your new life. With a combination of our christian counseling component and our addiction treatment program, it is our goal to give you the tools to maintain your sobriety after you have completed the treatment.

It is time for you to let the Lord to create a clean heart and be able to renew the right spirit in you or your loved one.

A Christian Rehab Program Saved Me

Having a problem with drugs or alcohol is never easy to confront and is harder still to live with.  A person will be afraid of admitting the truth and will go to any lengths necessary to avoid facing it.  The hallmark of drug addiction or alcoholism is a person might think about or try to stop using substances of their own, but because of the way drugs makes them feel, the individual is not able to quit.  It is in situations like this that the help of a Christian rehab treatment program in Florida can be instrumental in helping a person recover. Florida happens to have one of the best Christian rehab treatment programs in the country.

A person will never be turned away from the love and fellowship of God’s family and will be provided with encouragement and constant support.  While in Christian rehab treatment for drug addiction a person will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of different healing programs and services which are designed to enhance the treatment experience and improve the chances of success.  With the help of caring and skilled Christian rehab treatment professionals, a person will be able to deal effectively with the underlying issues surrounding their addiction and find positive ways in which to deal with complications and stress.

Using many of the same therapies offered by most drug rehab treatment programs, a Christian based rehab treatment program is able to help even the most seriously addicted.  In Christian rehab treatment program in Florida an addicted person is treated with the utmost compassion and kindness, which will help the individual overcome and permanently conquer drug addiction.

With the right Christian rehab treatment and a firm dedication to becoming clean and sober, an addicted person can find the path to forgiveness and healing that comes from embracing faith and knowing that Jesus is the higher power through which all things are possible.  Never think you deserve to be stuck in drug addiction forever, realize that the best way to make the nightmare stop is to seek help and have the faith needed to live a clean and sober life, the way God intended for you.

While doing my bible study I found this scripture that seemed to speak directly to Christians’ needing to seek drug abuse treatment.

“7Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” James 4:7-10

It was revealed that this is basically a blueprint for the journey that a Christian will take from addiction to recovery.Let’s look at the Scripture together:

“7Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Come near to God and he will come near to you.” James 4:7-8a

For many of us the hardest thing for us to do is to submit to God’s will. We think that we should be able to fix our own problems (which often makes more problems). But God speaks very clearly in James saying that we must submit ourselves to Him because we can not do it by ourselves, or for ourselves.’

In James, we also get a little insight into how the devil works. If you resist him, he will flee from you. The devil only has as much power as we allow him to have. If you resist him, he will cut and run. He knows that if you are resisting him, you are drawing nearer to God, who has all power in His hands. Just think about it in your daily life, if you resist the drug dealer, how long do you think it will be before he stops calling/texting you?

Now let us look a little further at the second half of James 4:8 and 9.

“…Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.” James 4:8b-9

Now God knows that the hardest part is the resisting of temptation, which is why He tells you to draw near to Him for support. He is there with you during the next step, you have to clean yourself up.  You have to wash away and purify yourself from the drugs or the alcohol that has stained your life. Now it won’t be easy. You will cry a little. You will want to give up. But you have to remember that God is there with open arms waiting to give you comfort. We all know that weeping may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning.

10Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” James 4:7-10″

There is nothing that God can not bring you out of if you let Him. He wants to lift you or your loved one out of this addiction. Through the combination of a practical treatment program with additional focus of spiritual renewal and growth, we want to help you to submit, resist and cleanse so that the Lord can lift you up.

Addiction affects people mentally, physically and spiritually; if any one of these areas goes untreated the person will surly relapse. Most Addiction Treatment Centers treat the patient mentally and physically but seem to be at a loss when it comes to the patient’s spiritual well being. Our Florida Christian Rehab is well suited to treat all aspects of a patient’s addiction. The Christian Therapist overseeing our Christian Program is a graduate of seminary school and understands the spiritual needs of a patient broken by their disease. We believe that spirituality is a deep often religious feeling and belief, including a patient’s sense of peace, purpose, connection to others and beliefs about the meaning of life.

Self-centeredness is at the core of the disease of addiction. As a person succumbs to their addiction they start a downward spiral where their belief system starts to change to allow for those behaviors necessary to continue their self abuse. Behaviors become anti social and they start to avoid family and friends. Judgment becomes clouded by the affects of prolonged drug use and the only goal becomes to stay intoxicated. Peace of mind is replaced by turmoil and the addict losses direction and feels there is no longer any meaning to life. This describes our patients as they are admitted to our Florida Christian Rehab.

As the patients begin to clear and start to interact with staff they feel the patience, tolerance and respect that has been missing in their lives. The therapist help the patient examine their recent past and then as the bond is made they look at their remote history and the underlying problems that often precede the addiction. Patients in our Florida Christian Rehab attend groups where they study scripture and learn from examples that closely resemble their own experience. The patients start to feel better about themselves and find new meaning through their closer relationship with God. The patients re-establish severed relationships with the help of our drug rehab staff. Before the patient leaves treatment the void they once felt is filled with a positive spiritual awareness. There is still work to be done but the patient’s confidence has been restored and they have a good start on their life of recovery.
