Alcohol in the Bible
The Bible is very clear on its stance on alcoholic beverages.
Though the Bible does not appear to condemn moderate use, it is does condemn drunknesss in both the Old and New Testament. Let us look to Proverbs, the book of wisdom that says:
“Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise. “Proverbs 20:1 (NIV)
Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.” Proverbs 23:20,Proverbs 23:21 (NIV)
Alcoholism is a severe disease that both separates you from your friends, family and the Word of God. And though many say that alcoholism cannot be cured most agree that recovery is possible with complete abstinence.
Be encouraged.
In Isaiah 40:29, it says “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” (NIV).
For many people that help comes through their admittance into christian rehab centers, that offer additional opportunities for spiritual renewal in addition to the more traditional treatment program.
